House Bill 281 bans the use of public funds for lobbying the legislature. I filed this bill because the funds that are used to pay lobbyists divert money away from important community services and instead line the pockets of Austin lobbyists. This legislation also levels the playing field between the taxpayers and those who are often paid to work against them. The House State Affairs committee heard overwhelmingly from supporters of the bill, including some local elected officials. The Committee voted the bill out and it now sits in the Calendars Committee, who will vote to bring it to the floor.
